Meridian Touch and Movement First

I met Mr. Chris McGrath in early 2011 when I was hosting an ACE sponsored Functional Movement workshop held at a health club in Brooklyn. As I watched and listened to him make his presentation I was quickly struck by his breathe of knowledge but more so about his philosophy regarding movement. Even though he was teaching from a more scientific western paradigm, most of what he was teaching lined up with the philosophy of Meridian Touch quite well.

Chris is one of the few trainers in New York City that isn’t caught up in the esthetics game of more reps and sets, or more sweat and burn. He understands the foundations of movement must be learned and practiced with quality in order to have any true long term and genuinely functional results. His personal training company Movement First and Meridian Touch have teamed up to teach, consultant, and train those who have the desire to understand and execute movement from a more natural and primal basis, bringing essential skills from both the western and eastern fitness worlds. Watch out for our training workshops and seminars coming up soon.

Exercise is Optional – Movement is Essential

“You can move without exercise, but you can’t exercise without movement. So which came first? Movement! Everyone moves differently. But does your exercise routine reflect this?

At Movement First, we literally focus on your movement first by prioritizing the fundamentals. No gimmicks. No magic equipment. No insane promises. Just straight forward coaching for health, fitness, self-reliance, quality living and longevity.

Quality will get you quantity, but it will never happen the other way around…How many sets and reps did it take you to learn how to do your first squat? It should be difficult to remember because you were likely about twelve-months old.

Mastering movement happens sequentially, not by simply counting and tracking reps and sets. Reps and sets do not determine the true measure of success. We believe true success is measured by the outcome of your ability to move freely. When you can move freely, you can move more. When you move more, envision the outcome of a life spent moving more!

Not a bad vision…”
